About Us

Sean & Helen with Terry Prone (centre) of The Communications Clinic at Roscommon Lamb Festival 2010

The Butler Farm in Tavanagh converted to organic methods back in 2004 at a time when animal health issues were rising and the only solution being actively promoted was the ever-increasing use of medicines. Having experimented on a small scale we discovered that a reduction in stock numbers and a return to more natural farming methods created a less stressful environment for the animals, resulting in healthier and more content livestock which produced better quality, healthier meat. An unexpected benefit for us was a more relaxed and stress-free farming experience and during this time we developed our interest in alternative therapies. Reiki, reflexology and life-coaching are now available on the farm.

We have seen the benefits of this lifestyle change for ourselves and want to share it with others and so, Hillside Organic & Holistic Farm was created. Here on the farm there is the opportunity to reconnect with the earth by growing healthy, organic food on an allotment.

Hillside Organic & Holistic Farm is a family friendly environment – children are welcome on the allotments and we’ll do everything we can for everyone to have an enjoyable gardening experience.

Sean

Sean is the 5th generation of the Butler family to farm the land here in Tavanagh. After leaving school in 1976, he studied in Mountbellew Agriculture College and has been farming here since. He’s an avid sheep shearer having won several competition awards over the years and shearing every summer on a contract basis.

After converting the farm to organic methods Sean went on to study Reiki, Reflexology and Shamanic Healing and practices these therapies here at Hillside Farm.
